Lingyin Temple Distributes Laba Porridge to the General Public

On December 31, 2016, the Lingyin Sangha and volunteers loaded the first batch of traditional Laba grain porridge cooked during the early morning into the truck--the first distribution went to homes for seniors, welfare centers for children, and residential communities with a large population of old people. A long tradition has been for Lingyin Temple to distribute Laba porridge and it is no exception this year. Ven. Guangquan Addresses the 2016 Symposium on Buddhist Ideology 

On December 18, 2016, the 2016 Symposium on Buddhist Ideology and the book launch of Ren Jian Fo Jiao Lun Cong (Essays and Books on Humanistic Buddhism) were co-organized by Chinese Buddhist Culture Research Institute, Institute for Ethics and Religions Studies, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Buddhist Cultural Institute, held at Beijing Shichahai Ancient College. Shangde Scholarship Awards Ceremony Held  by Yunlin Charitable Foundation

On December 14, 2016, the 2016 Shangde Scholarship awards ceremony was held by Yunlin Charitable Foundation at Hangzhou Dianzi University. Attendees included the Religious Department Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Hu Shengjun, Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan and executives of Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, Zhejiang Sci-tech University and Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electronic Power along with the 58 students who were awarded. The Third Yunlin Cup Go Tournament for University Students held at Zhejiang University

On November 26, 2016, the Third Yunlin Cup Go Tournament for University Students in Zhejiang took place in Zhejiang Gongshang University. All competitions would participate today and tomorrow for the 96 Go players of 19 teams from universities of Zhejiang. Lingyin Temple sent a team led by Master Jueliang at invitation to play Go and share the experience with university students. The monastery supervisor of Lingyin Temple, Master Kuoren, extended his well wishes at the opening ceremony of the Go tournament. He addressed that the game as a high art form originating from the Chinese traditional culture, and the Lingyin Go team represents a beneficial attempt of combining Buddhism and the traditional culture. Buddhist Disciples Return to Lingyin Temple and Undertake The Eight Precepts

On November 20, 2016, the ritual of Buddhist disciples’ returning to Lingyin Temple and undertaking The Eight Precepts. During the three-day activity, Buddhist disciples had the chance to experience the life in Buddhist temples with tolling bells and beating drums in the morning and evening. They attended morning and evening classes, and transcribed sutras by hand to explore into their own minds and cultivate inner peace.Lingyin Buddhist Dharma masters also introduced to the disciples the history of Lingyin Temple and addressed the meaning of conversion to Buddhism. Ven. Guangquan Gives Lecture “Staying True to the Mission” to Sangha of Qita Temple

On October 28, 2016, the 9th day of The Precept Transmission Dharma Assembly at Qita Temple, Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guangquan gave a lecture entitled ＂Stay True to the Mission＂ to over 320 newly ordained Buddhists at the invitation of the Sangha of Qita Temple. In his lecture, he encouraged Buddhists to stay true to their initial determination, stick by the standards of the precepts and make consistent progress in the practice of Buddhism.Ven. Yunlin Charitable Foundation Donates One Million after Landslide in Lishui City

A massive landslide triggered by Typhoon Megi occurred on the evening of September 28 in Sucun Village in Suichang County, the eastern province of Zhejiang. 7 people were confirmed dead, at least 20 people remained missing and 20 houses were buried. Abbot of Lingyin Temple Ven. Guanquan was greatly concerned about the situation in the disaster area and Yunlin Charitable Foundation donated one million yuan to China Society for Promotion of the Guangcai Program in Lishui City for disaster relief. Yunlin Charitable Foundation, initiated by Lingyin Temple, aims to support and promote social causes and philanthropy. 2016 Mid-autumn Festival Tea Ceremony Held

On September 15, 2016, Lingyin Temple held a tea ceremony to celebrate the 2016 Mid-autumn Festival. Over 300 people, including the Sangha and staff of Lingyin Temple and Buddhist believers from all regions, gathered at the Dharma Hall and celebrated the moon festival.The Mid-autumn Festival tea party began with art performances, including the performances of classical musical instruments, such as Guqin (Chinese zither), Yangqin (dulcimer), flute, etc. A special session – prize-winning game quiz on knowledge of Buddhism – was included this year, and people knew more about Buddhism and had great fun by playing quiz game with the audience.
